I travel frequently through Denver International Airport (DEN) to visit family and to ski. From this first-hand experience, I’ve always believed that the DEN TSA crew is among the nation’s worst. According to an internal TSA report, a key reason is the local TSA management. Denver’s NBC affiliate obtained a copy of the report and ran an investigative segment on last night’s 10pm news. The internal report labeled the DEN TSA management team “retaliatory,” “inconsistent,” “lack integrity” and “antagonist.”
Former screeners claim that the hostile atmosphere detracts TSA employees from effectively screening passengers and luggage. One current screener who asked not to be identified said “The culture is one that really promotes a lot of underhanded, retaliatory action from people and doesn’t really promote hard work and ethical behavior.” No wonder the TSA is at the bottom (220 out of 222) of the latest Best Places to Work in the Federal Government rankings. Next time I get hassled at Denver, I’ll try not to take it personally — apparently it’s just the TSA way.

I experienced rudeness for no reason from a female TSA inspector in Denver on a recent trip to a friend’s wedding. A smile and kind word did nothing to assuage the situation. I shut my mouth and moved on…KINDNESS COSTS NOTHING. Something’s rotten in Denver!
I work for the TSA in a different city. I wish the news would cover ALL the major airports. They do not hire manangement because of education or because of experience, it’s who you know, what you know and what you can do for the upper management.
I work at a big airport in the midwest and our management is extremely horrible. It may sound like I am complaining, but I assure you all I am not. I believe that our management should have nothing less than a BS/BA. Then their management should have nothing less than a Master’s degree. I am currently at an “F” band pay level, I have my degree and I get paid the same as one of my co-workers who has a GED and nothing more. This is why some TSA officers are frustrated on how things are ran; a lot of those with the GEDs are then ones being promoted to the “H” bands or higher levels. The ones that have furthered educated themselves, will inquire about jobs within TSA, etc., so we can further our knowledge. We get a bullseye mark on us and the upper management do not like being “challenged.” As long as an officer within TSA is a “yes-man,” they are the ones that are going far in this gov’t job/career. Those are the ones that lack experience, education, have a “rap sheet” and retaliate against those they did not like…
