I work very hard not to take out my frustrations with the airlines on the employees — those folks are usually just trying to do their jobs; just trying to get through to the end of the day like the rest of us. Others aren’t so considerate. Flying back from San Francisco last week, the guy next to me at the ticket counter asked the ticket agent at least a half-dozen times to “show me some love” after she told him she couldn’t upgrade his Chicago-London leg. I was impressed by her patience, keeping her cool long after I was ready to tell him to give it up.
However, the gang at Gadling has posted a video of a passenger who refuses to hold it in. Denied boarding on a Cathay Pacific Hong Kong-to-San Francisco flight because she arrived at the gate after the plane door had closed, she has no qualms about putting her dismay on full display. Here’s the URL to the video on the YouTube site.

OK – I’m going to be a little snarky here but it has to be said! For the love of God – give that woman an elephant tranquilizer. Thank GOD she didn’t get on the plane. I can only imagine what the flight attendants would have had to deal with. I’m thinking hormone replacement therapy might be an option as well. If I EVER act that way please load me up with progesterone, Prozac and alcohol! I’d rather act a fool because I’m drugged/drunk than for missing a plane! And her husband taped it? It’s a good thing they check for handguns in security because the second thing I’d do would be to shoot my husband! Hmmm – maybe I should get a drink – that tape bothered me a little too much! Ha!
It makes you wonder whether she’s just a weirdo who can’t cope with minor problems like missing a flight, or someone who missed a flight to see a dying parent or something similar.
Nonetheless, having just endured a 10 and a half hour flight filled with children running up and down the aisles and bumping into people in the aisle seats, I’m not sure if I could have taken an hysterical adult on the same flight, too. The people on the plane she missed don’t know how lucky there were.
That woman seems seriously disturbed to me. No, seriously. I’ve never known anyone to freak out like that. She’s simply braying at the top of her lungs just for the sake of it, kind of like a two-year-old would.
How weird. I guess some people have no shame.
USA Today has a follow-up to this story.
According to the story, almost 5 million people have viewed the video since it was posted on Feb 12.
You know, at first I laughed like everyone else. Then it dawned on me this really isn’t funny. In the past, I have suffered from anxiety attacks. Thank God I’ve not had such an attack in more than a decade. As I continued to watch this video, I realized that this woman may very well an anxiety disorder, too. Some anxiety attacks manifest themselves in this way that one sees on the video. I’m just glad there was no YouTube 10 years ago, otherwise the world would’ve been laughing at me like this. I really think a little more compassion and a little less judgement and mockery is in order here. It’s really not nice to make fun of or exploit those with mental illnesses.
