This week’s TravelCommons podcast focuses on the good things about travel. Last week’s podcast seemed a bit negative, so I try to bring a bit of balance this week. Recorded in the LAX Westin, I stow the laptop for a night and walk the Manhattan Beach, CA pier, reflect on a rare window seat ride on a flight out of Phoenix, and read from a friend’s letter as he starts a new life in Sao Paulo. Here’s a direct link to the podcast file.
Here are the shownotes from the TravelCommons podcast #4:
- Intro music — Warmth by Makkina
- Recording from the bathroom of the LAX Westin in Los Angeles
- Made changes to the travelcommons.com website to allow everyone to leave comments about the podcasts
- Sounds from a walk down the Manhattan Beach, CA pier and the Manhattan Beach Brewing Company
- Looking out the window of a night flight from Phoenix to Chicago
- Somebody types “Cabo San Lucas prostitutes” into Yahoo and ends up at the travelcommons.com website!
- Business travel to Brazil causes a friend to chuck it all and move south
- Feedback at comments[at]travelcommons.com, the comment board on podcastalley.com, or right here in the comments section below

Just a couple of quick comments:
– Loving the show so far! Stumbled into listening to your podcast through itunes while I work a few days (itunes is OK right now but I’m going to go explore some and see if there’s something better – something that does podcasts and rss which to me would be ideal) 🙂 Slowly working my way through the old shows so I can catch up to the current.
– Quick comment about WordPress: it will do the abbreviated postings like you have here BUT only if the template you use has that “enabled” and you add text into the excerpt field (if you or anyone wants to play with this, an easy to find template that allows you to do this is “Blix”.) I just started fiddling with WordPress last Monday and there seems to be a lot of hidden functionality to it but so far I’m loving it.
Anyway, keep up the great work!

Hilary –
Thanks for the suggestion on WordPress. I use WordPress for a private blog in which I keep friends/family up-to-date on the progress of our house construction project. I like it, but am only using the default template. I’ll search out the Blix template and start to play with it. Keep me posted on your findings.
Glad that you’re enjoying the podcast. I currently split my “podcatching” between iTunes and iPodder. My current traffic seems to be about 75% iTunes, so it has quickly become the “default” podcatching client for most people. I keep using iPodder because it has a bit more functionality.
Regards,
Mark
